Many of us are being misled. Claiming to know the “pals” of presidential aspirants, dark secrets about public officials, and hidden causes of the current economic crisis, those who spread rumors know precisely what they are doing. They are sometimes able to derail political candidates, injure companies and reputations, even damage democratic governance. And in the era of the Internet, they know more about manipulating the mechanics of false rumors—social cascades, group polarization, and biased assimilation—than you do. They also know that the presumed correctives—publishing balanced information, issuing corrections, and trusting to the marketplace of ideas—do not always work. A pioneer in the effort “to design regulation around the ways people behave” ( The Wall Street Journal ), Cass R. Sunstein uses examples from the real world and from behavioral studies to explain why certain rumors spread like wildfire and what we can do to avoid being misled.

Can anyone tell me the name of these weird old movies?
Okay... when I was a little kid (1994-ish), my parents used to watch some pretty strange movies on tv. Some of them were probably too disturbing for children (maybe that's why they stand out in my mind so well, haha). Anyway, these are the two I remember:
1.) 1970s-80s vintage I'm guessing-- lady shoots another lady in the belly area with a gun/cannon and she falls into a swimming pool. Five seconds later, the lady jumps out of the water, but now she has a giant hole through her abdomen. somebody looks through the hole in her stomach and says something like "ooo, I can see you!" or something corny like that. Scared the crap outta me when i was a little kid, but in retrospect, I suppose you could say this was a comedy/horror/sci-fi movie.
2.) Second movie that scared the crap out of me had a scene where a lady was cooking for a man, but everything she cooked had worms, snakes, and bugs in it!
Thank you!
1.) Death Becomes Her (1992): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0104070/
2.) I'm sorry but I don't have a clue what this one is!
VINTAGE HORROR SCI-FI MOVIE POSTERS FROM AROUND THE WORLD
During the 1930s, pulp sci-fi mushroomed as the American public’s attention was caught up in a frenzy of new scientific discoveries that fueled bold and fantastical predictions of an unknown future. In this 358-page, illustrated compilation, I have included some lesser known master pieces such as the novelette, “The White Invaders,” published in 1931, which chronicles and invasion of earth from another dimension...
All of the weird, sci-fi/ horror tales in this 127-page, fantastically illustrated volume published exclusively for Kindle come from the hardcore pulp magazines of the 1940s to 1960s.They are weird, snarly, imaginative and gritty all rolled up in a great plot, memorable characters and punching endings with unexpected twists and turns...
I was born too late to enjoy the heyday of Sci-Fi Pulp magazines, but that didn’t keep me from seeking them out and bathing my entire being in the fine stuff that many of today’s greatest sci-fi movies are still made of...
* 11 Original illustrations & photographs added to revised edition. Before sci-fi got cute and discovered its softer side, it was hardboiled to the core – as were ist hardcore readers. Its masters were weaned on pulp fiction at a time in the second half of the 20th century when man actually began to reach out for the stars...
This is the second in a series of lost, hardcore, sci-fi pulp I’ve had the good fortune to find, compile and edited in this exclusive Kindle edition. It is my sincere hope of delighting old and new hardcore sci-fi fans alike...
Whenever I hunt for sci-fi pulp and discover a new batch of treasures created by the masters of this lost genre, I am excited and saddened. I’m excited because I know that I am in store for fantastical trips to other worlds and will be treated to original concepts from the prolific writers who spanned the salad days of pulp fiction from the 1930s to the late 1960s...
I’ll make a confession to you. Although I love sci-fi more than any other genre on the face of the earth, I have trouble watching many of the latest sci-fi movies made for TV or the theaters. That’s because most of them are based on special effects and action instead of strong stories plots...
Vintage sci-fi and fantasy from the 1940s to the 1960s was a thinking person’s venue. While it’s true there was terror, suspense and plenty of violence in these plot-filled stories, there was also an abundance of irony, hard science and unsolvable paradoxes...
John Howard Reid's books just seem to get bigger and better and more informative. His new release will fill a void for all who are interested in movies that deal with science fiction, fantasy, horror and the supernatural...
When I was a boy, I remember hearing my teenage friends raving about pulp terror and suspense magazines of the day, but this genre had already ceased to exist when I became interested in reading them. As a result, I have explored and combed the archives of libraries and private collections in search of these magnificent vintage horror and suspense masterpieces that more than deliver what they promiseThe four stories I compiled for this 35,000-plus word collection have punch, story, plot, characters and speculative premises that make you think while you are taken by the hand on unique and exciting adventures...

About Making Monsters A political undercurrent exists that resembles cyberpunk. Scifi elements remain near future and fuse with horror fiction. Some tales have what may appear to be shock tactics, but these passages also build the story as a whole. The stories vary in length from shortshort to tales at long story or short novella length. The book would be about 520 pages in regular paperback Author: Morton, Gary L.
