I want to start reading Batman comics, but where to start?

I want to start reading batman comics, and I have done a little research on where to start, but being a first time comic reader (I know), I'm finding it hard to understand. From what I gather, It's a bunch of different writers writing their own batman story, in different 'series'. But then some of the comics seem to flow off another series. Could someone explain this? Cheers.

How to start reading Superman or Batman comics?

I'm reading Ultimate Spider-Man and really enjoying it. I want to start either Batman or Superman when I finish. I don't want to read something that is 40 years old or that has a billion issues already out. Are there any newer versions of Batman or Superman, like Spiderman had Ultimate Spiderman? If not, where should I start with either of those comics?

What Batman comics should I read after Year One?

Probably been asked a million times, but anyway...

I'm looking to start reading some Batman comics. I don't want to start all the way back in the 1940s, but I'm looking for the essential arcs and limited series publications that are considered "the essential," as well as in a specific order.

I've just read Year One, wondering were to go from there.

What are some comics that feature strong female characters?

Hi, I am a boy who comes from a very sexist household and I was wondering if there was a way I could get some comics that have strong female characters like wonder woman but are about someone like batman. On the cover it's just batman and stuff, then inside it's about wonder woman too, you know what I mean?

What is the difference in Batman comics pre/post crisis?

I am looking to expand my collection and buy some 80's Batman comics. What is the difference in the 80's books leading up to Year One?

Maybe I should just start with Year One to make it easier and nit mess with Batman and Tec before Year One and Year Two.

How exactly do I start reading/collecting comics?

I've read that people recommend buying the Trade Paperbacks to read the back-log of the comics, and that IS very helpful, but I don't suppose people could point me towards a specific series to start me out? I'm a huge fan of Batman, but I don't know WHERE in the TP I should start reading, especially since there are so many different stories.
