How can I get my cartoons to a newspaper?

I'm a cartoonist and I just finished school and am looking towards the next step. I was wondering who exactly would I have to talk to in order to get a shot at having my cartoons published? My dream is to have them along with Garfield,Peanuts and others so does anyone know what I have to do? Thanks.

Call a newspaper in your community. Make an appointment to see the Features Editor. (The Managing Editor will always say he/she is too busy to talk to anybody.) Show the Features Editor your work and ask if he/she would accept some FREE. Yeah, giving your work away is a bummer, but right now most newspapers are so financially desperate that there is a big question as to which ones will survive. Or, you could create your own website and post them there.

    Whatever you choose, good luck.
