Are the current "Batman" comic books been released telling the story of the Batman of New Earth?
the Infinite Crisis of DC comics was neccessary but who have to admit that unless ur a die hard fan who has been coolecting most of the batman or other dc comics before and after inifinite crisis that it makes it bloody confusing. Unfortunetly im not one of those people, mostly because i havnt been alive theat long (18 years). So im wondering, are the current batman comics that are being released (there are like over 600) telling the story of the batman of New Earth (or perhaps post- crisis is more to your liking) or are they still telling the story of a batman from a pre-crisis Earth, such as earth one or the multiple other ones. I hope u understand what im asking lol im really struggling to find the correct wording to ask this question the most accurate way possible.
Yeah, whenever there's a "Crisis" in the DC multi-verse, it gets really confusing. Other parallel universes get discovered, then merged, or destroyed, and it's hard to keep it all straight.
The latest crossover, Final Crisis, was one of the most confusing crossovers ever. Even people who read every single issue have been posting here, trying to figure out what really "happened". I personally blame the writer, Grant Morrison - whenever he writes something, I find it very hard to understand. (The stories of his Marvel counterpart, Brian Michael Bendis, are only slightly easier to understand.)
At the same time that Final Crisis was taking place, the Batman books ran a crossover called "R.I.P." (also written by Morrison), in this crossover, Batman appeared to die, but then in Final Crisis he was revealed to still be alive, and apparently died again. (or did he?)
Since the Batman books now feature Dick Grayson as Batman, I would imagine that they are taking place in the main DC universe, post-Final Crisis.
The state of the DC multiverse is (I think) - Crisis on Infinite Earths destroyed all the alternate worlds and merged them into one, but then many of them (52) were re-created in the Infinite Crisis.
The new "history of the DC Universe" was a back-up feature in the series "52", explaining the new continuity.
However, this is all subject to change, it all lasts until the next set of writers decides to tear the whole thing down and start over again. And of course, no one stays dead in comics, so Bruce Wayne will be back as Batman at some point.
Of the (almost) 700 issues of "Batman", some feature the Silver Age (pre-crisis) Batman, and some feature the post-Crisis Batman (404 and after, I think). The individual hero books are affected by these mega-crossovers and reflect the changes in the characters that are caused by them.
EDIT: If Grant Morrison is such a great writer, why are so many DC readers confused by his storylines? I must have answered 5 posts here myself about the events of "Batman: RIP" - no one, including myself, could figure it out! Is it too much to ask a writer to explain story events in a way that the fans can understand?
